Thinking about installing a media wall fireplace in your home? Good choice — media walls are one of the UK’s most stylish home upgrades, combining your TV and electric fire into one stunning feature.
This guide walks you through the process, from planning and preparation to installation and finishing touches.

- MDF panels or timber framing
- Electric fireplace (plug-in style)
- Power drill, saw, screws, wall plugs
- Spirit level and measuring tape

Step 1: Design & Planning

Sketch your layout or use software. Remember to leave space for ventilation and plug access.
Step 2: Build the Frame
- Use timber or MDF battens to create a stud-style frame on your wall.
- Allow space for the fireplace insert and any shelving.
- Use a spirit level to keep everything square and straight.
- Secure the frame into wall studs or masonry anchors.
Step 3: Install Power and Cables
- Plug the fireplace into a nearby socket.
- Use trunking or cable clips to route the wires neatly behind the frame.
- Install a cable pass-through or brush plate for TV wires.
⚠️ Important: If unsure about electrics, always consult a qualified electrician.
Step 4: Fit the Fireplace
- Slide your electric fireplace into the frame cutout.
- Check alignment and plug it in to test flame and heat functions.
- Secure in place using brackets or screws if needed.
Step 5: Board and Finish
- Cover the frame with MDF or plasterboard.
- Use filler to smooth over joints and screw holes.
- Sand the surface smooth and apply your chosen finish (paint, wallpaper, Venetian plaster, etc.).
Design Tip: Add LED strip lighting behind the TV recess or along the base for a modern glow.
Step 6: Mount Your TV
- Use a suitable bracket and anchor it into solid studs or wall plugs.
- Ensure the centre of the TV is eye-level when seated (usually 42–48 inches from floor).
- Hide any loose cables behind the wall or inside trunking.
Final Tips
- Leave space at the top or bottom of the frame for fireplace ventilation
- Choose a fireplace with flame-only mode for year-round ambience
- Order pre-primed MDF to save on painting time
